1. What is chin, neck and double chin aesthetics?
  • Chin, neck and double chin aesthetics covers procedures applied to make the lower face look more aesthetic and youthful.
  • Double chin aesthetics is performed to correct excess fat and sagging under the chin.
  • A neck lift is performed by correcting the platysmal bands and tightening the skin.
  • Jawline aesthetics covers procedures performed to define or correct the jawbone.
  • These surgeries are performed to correct deformities caused by aging, genetic factors or weight loss.
2. Who is a suitable candidate for neck lift surgery?
  • People aged 40 and over with skin sagging and prominent platysmal bands.
  • People with noticeable fat accumulation along the jawline and in the neck area.
  • Those who experience sagging in the neck area after weight loss.
  • Those whose chin-neck angle is impaired due to a retruded chin.
  • People who genetically have loose skin in the neck area.
3. How is neck lift surgery performed?
  • Neck lift surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes 2-4 hours.
  • Through incisions made behind the ears and under the chin, excess skin is removed and the platysmal bands are tightened.
  • If the salivary glands have sagged, they are corrected surgically.
  • After surgery, a neck bandage and special compression garments are used.
  • The full recovery process ranges from 3 to 6 months.
4. What is the recovery process like after a neck lift?
  • Swelling and bruising may be noticeable during the first week, but they usually decrease within 3 to 6 weeks.
  • Patients can usually return to their daily activities within 1-2 weeks, but they should wait 4-6 weeks for heavy physical activities.
  • Keeping the head elevated during the first few weeks can help swelling go down faster.
  • Stitches are usually removed within 7-10 days, and healing of the incision areas takes about 4-6 weeks.
  • It may take about 3-6 months for the final results to appear and for the tissues to settle completely.
5. What are the most common complications after neck lift surgery?
  • Swelling and bruising may last longer, especially in patients using blood thinners.
  • Temporary numbness and loss of sensation may last a few months depending on the healing process of the nerves.
  • The risk of infection is rare, and can be minimized with appropriate antibiotic use and hygienic care.
  • Opening of the suture line or wound healing problems are usually seen more often in patients who smoke.
  • Skin irregularities or asymmetry usually disappear after the swelling subsides, but touch-up procedures may be needed in some cases.
6. Can a neck lift and chin aesthetics be performed at the same time?
  • Yes, for many patients a neck lift and chin aesthetics can be performed in combination, because these procedures complement each other.
  • While the double chin area is corrected with chin augmentation or liposuction, skin sagging can be eliminated with a neck lift.
  • Combined procedures performed in a single session allow the recovery process to be completed at once.
  • With a holistic facial aesthetics approach, more natural and balanced results are achieved.
  • The patient’s age, skin structure and general health determine the feasibility of such combined surgeries.
7. How many days of bed rest are needed after neck lift surgery?
  • Patients should usually rest in bed for 1-2 days, but staying completely immobile is not recommended.
  • During the first week, the head should be kept elevated and 2-3 pillows should be used when lying down; this helps reduce swelling.
  • Heavy physical activities should be avoided for the first 3-4 weeks, because sudden movements can create tension on the stitches.
  • Lying face down should be avoided; this position can affect blood circulation and slow down the healing process.
  • Light walks are recommended after the first week, because they support healing by increasing circulation.
8. When can I wear makeup after a neck lift?
  • It is recommended not to wear makeup for the first 10-14 days after surgery, because there is a risk of the incision areas becoming infected.
  • Foundations and concealers in particular can damage sensitive skin after surgery, so they should be avoided for the first 2 weeks.
  • If makeup is to be used to conceal bruising, mineral-based products can be used with the doctor’s approval.
  • Gentle movements should be used when removing makeup, and the skin should not be pulled, because this can negatively affect the healing process.
  • Sunscreen should not be neglected before makeup, because the skin is more sensitive after surgery and should be protected against sun spots.
10. How can swelling be reduced after neck lift surgery?
  • Applying cold compresses during the first 48 hours helps keep swelling under control.
  • Keeping the head elevated prevents fluid accumulation and allows swelling to clear faster.
  • Excessive salt intake should be avoided, because salt can cause water retention in the body and increase swelling.
  • Low-paced walks can help swelling resolve faster by increasing blood circulation.
  • Special techniques such as lymphatic drainage massage can be applied with the doctor’s approval, but it is important not to apply too much pressure in the early period.
11. Does neck lift surgery leave scars?
  • Since the scars are usually in hidden areas such as behind the ears and under the chin, they are not visible from the outside.
  • Silicone-based creams and laser treatments can help surgical scars heal faster.
  • Protecting yourself from the sun during the first few months is very important, because the sun’s rays can cause surgical scars to darken.
  • Smoking can negatively affect wound healing and make scars more noticeable, so it should be avoided.
  • Complete fading of the scars can take between 6 months and 1 year, but for most patients the scars do not pose a significant problem.
12. Should lymphatic drainage massage be done after a neck lift?
  • Lymphatic drainage massage is beneficial for reducing swelling after surgery, but it should be done carefully in the early period.
  • Hard or intense massages should not be done without the doctor’s approval, because they can negatively affect the healing process.
  • Massages done with light, gentle movements can help swelling clear faster.
  • It is recommended not to have a massage during the first 2 weeks; after that, it can be started with a specialist.
  • Especially for patients who have had a deep plane neck lift, lymphatic drainage massage can speed up tissue healing and help the skin look smoother.
13. What are the most common complaints after neck lift surgery?
  • Swelling and bruising are among the most common complaints after surgery and usually decrease within 3-6 weeks.
  • A feeling of tightness and mild discomfort in the neck area is common in the first weeks after surgery.
  • Surgical scars are usually hidden behind the ears, but some patients may temporarily feel redness or firmness.
  • Tissue firmness and mild numbness may last until nerve healing is complete and improve within a few months.
  • Patients may sometimes worry because the results are not immediately visible, but the full recovery process can take 6-12 months.
14. For how many weeks should a compression garment be worn after neck lift surgery?
  • Wearing a compression garment is usually recommended for the first 4-6 weeks, because it helps tighten the skin and supports proper healing in the surgical area.
  • It should be worn 24 hours a day for the first 2 weeks, and after that it can be worn only during the day or at night.
  • The garment reduces swelling by preventing fluid accumulation in the surgical area and improves the surgical results.
  • It is important not to wear it too tight, because excessive pressure can obstruct circulation and slow down healing.
  • The duration of garment use may vary from person to person in line with the doctor’s recommendations, so an individual consultation should be held.
15. What should my diet be like after neck lift surgery?
  • Soft and nutritious foods should be preferred during the first week, because jaw movements can cause discomfort in the surgical area.
  • Drinking plenty of water and eating a low-salt diet helps swelling clear faster.
  • Protein-rich foods should be eaten to speed up skin healing (such as fish, chicken, eggs and legumes).
  • Foods containing vitamins C and E speed up the healing process by supporting tissue renewal.
  • Caffeine and alcohol intake should be limited, because these substances can negatively affect post-operative healing.
16. For how many weeks should heavy lifting be avoided after a neck lift?
  • Heavy lifting should be avoided for the first 4-6 weeks after surgery, because it can put pressure on the stitch areas and negatively affect the healing process.
  • It is recommended not to lift objects heavier than 2-3 kg during the first two weeks, because sudden movements can make tissue healing in the neck area more difficult.
  • If the patient’s job requires physical strength, the return to work should be determined under the doctor’s supervision, because tissue healing may vary from person to person.
  • In addition to heavy lifting, bending over and sudden head movements should be avoided, because they can increase post-operative swelling.
  • Care should be taken until the full recovery process is complete, and the doctor’s approval should be obtained before starting heavy exercise.
17. How does smoking affect healing after a neck lift?
  • Smoking slows down the healing process and increases the risk of infection in the stitch areas.
  • Nicotine narrows the blood vessels, preventing oxygen from reaching the tissue and delaying wound healing.
  • It is recommended not to smoke for at least 4-6 weeks after surgery, because it can make scar tissue in the surgical area more noticeable.
  • The risk of developing tissue firmness and asymmetry is higher in patients who smoke, so quitting smoking is the best option.
  • Even passive smoking can negatively affect healing, so smoky environments should be avoided.
18. How many days after neck lift surgery is it safe to shower?
  • It is usually safe to shower 48 hours after surgery, but the water should not come into direct contact with the stitch areas.
  • Short showers with lukewarm water are recommended, and the surgical area should be kept dry.
  • Until the stitches have fully healed, taking a bath should be avoided and only local cleaning should be preferred.
  • Shampoos and soaps that do not irritate the skin should be preferred.
  • Hot environments such as saunas or steam baths should not be entered without the doctor’s approval, because this can increase swelling.
19. What should my sleeping position be after a neck lift?
  • For the first 2-3 weeks, you should sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated, because this reduces swelling and protects the surgical area.
  • Sleeping on your side should be avoided, because it can affect tissue healing and lead to asymmetry.
  • Using extra pillows can support the neck area and reduce pressure on the surgical area.
  • Careful sleeping is recommended until full recovery is achieved, so that the surgical results are preserved.
